Alice in Wonderland
Anticipation. People feel it all time, for all sorts of reasons, and people feel different ways about the emotion. I personally hate the emotion that is anticipation. For me, anticipation is a mixture of nerves, anxiety, and being a bit fearful.
Throughout the day, I had performed BHMS’ multiple “Alice in Wonderland” at the 2015 fall forensics competition, and it had finally come the time that all the competitors had been anticipating and dreading, awards. Out off all the times that I've previously competed in forensics I've only placed twice, once as a tie for fifth place for last springs multiple of “Legally Blonde”, and in seventh place from the first time I ever competed with a piece entitled “The Princess and The Pizza”, so the feeling of me wanting to finally earn a first place title was eating away at me.
Awards was quite boring if your team didn't have many people, which normally wasn't the case for BHMS due to the fact that we normally have at least fifty people, but this fall the team kind of fell apart so there were only eleven of us, including the multiple which had seven of the eleven people competing.
“And now,” the overly excited and obnoxious woman handing out awards screamed into the microphone, “it's time for the multiples. For semi-finalists from bay city “Alice in wonderland”’. At this the entire multipurpose from BHMS let out a sigh of both relief and nerves, because for a second we had thought it was us. The semi-finalists had all been called, and our multiple still hadn't been called, “Now moving on to our finalists. We have a three way tie for fifth place!” at this my friends and I looked at each other with a look in most of our eyes saying “this is gonna be us”, but we weren't called. Third place wasn't us either, it ended up being the multiple that was sat next to us, with whom we had befriended. My anticipation was really kicking in now and I hated it, the butterflies I was experiencing was making my entire body shake.
“We have a two way tie for first place,” the lady said, taking a dramatic pause that made me want to scream out “hurry up already”, but I had to be patient and wait for our results, “from Bloomfield Hills Middle “Alice in Wonderland”’. We all jumped up and practically ran to the stage to retrieve our trophy.
The anticipation was worth it in the end. We won.
